Calling All Citizen Enthusiasts: New Collections Just Dropped

One of These Pieces Might Just Be Your Next Essential Wristwatch

Photo from Citizen - Forza Super Titanium

Citizen didn’t hold back one bit at the end of June this year, announcing via their newsletter not one but two updates to their lineup. For the innovator and style enthusiast, the new Forza Super Titanium collection delivers across all fronts with three styles to explore. If retro cases, bright colors, and Super Titanium construction aren’t for you, the Promaster Air Geo Trekker models might be the way to go. Following more traditional visual cues, the Geo Trekker collection has the potential to become a staple for fans of functional yet classy watches.

This Week(ish) in Watches

  • The Swiss are making some drastic personnel changes. Richemont, the holding company with Maisons like IWC Schaffhausen, Piaget, and Van Cleef & Arpels in its portfolio, announced earlier this week that Vacheron Constantin CEO Louis Ferla will be taking the reigns of Cartier from current CEO Cyrille Vigneron. Effective September 1st, 2024, Vigneron will become the Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy.

  • aBlogtoWatch launched their latest monthly giveaway earlier this week – a Monro MA-6 Arctic White GMT bearing an MSRP of about $500. Entrance guidelines are posted on the blog’s website, and the giveaway will conclude on July 31st, 2024.

  • In a press release on June 27th, 2024, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed the recovery of a stolen pocket watch that once belonged to Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. Reported stolen in 1987 from an exhibition at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, the Waltham 17 jewel watch was a gift to Roosevelt from Corinne Roosevelt Robinson – his youngest sister – and his brother-in-law, Douglas Robinson, Jr.

Citizen’s June Drops

Citizen’s latest collections weigh style and utility equally despite significant design differences between them. Though the Forza collection appears to be more minimal and retro-inspired, the Super Titanium™ construction ensures that the watch can handle the rigors of regular use without cosmetic degradation.

The Promaster Air Geo Trekker collection, conversely, features utilitarian craftsmanship and a variety of functions. Intricacies built into the pieces in the collection, like the counterclockwise-rotating dial featuring the Northern Hemisphere, however, give the watches an air of creativity that balances out their ‘heavy-duty’ qualities.

Retailing between $495 and $895, the two collections fall in the lower-middle price range of Citizen’s lineup, but there’s little doubt that these watches deliver every feature one could want and then some. Whether you prefer something minimal and elegant or lean toward more durable and functional pieces, the Forza collection and the Promaster Air Geo Trekker collection deliver on both fronts.

The Forza Collection

Citizen unveiled the world’s first titanium watch in 1970. Over 50 years later, the Forza Super Titaniumcollection continues Citizen’s legacy of producing “boundary-pushing titanium timepieces.” The manufacturer’s present lineup currently contains 71 timepieces made from the material, including the three latest pieces, each in three color variations (nine watches in all).

The Forza collection costs $495 for the Three-Hand models and $625 for the six Mechanical and Chronograph models, making them about $200-$300 less expensive than the Promaster Air Geo Trekker collection.

The Three-Hand and Chronograph variants are powered by Eco-Drive technology, eliminating the need for a traditional battery. The Mechanical models are, as their name suggests, powered by mechanical movements. All models are constructed from Citizen’s proprietary Super Titanium™.

What is Super Titanium™?

According to Citizen Technologies, Super Titanium™ is created by “treating solid titanium with our proprietary surface-hardening technology, Duratect, to achieve a level of hardness over five times that of stainless steel.” The material is also 40% lighter than stainless steel, scratch- and rust-resistant, and gentle on the skin.

The Promaster Air Geo Trekker Collection

The Promaster Air Geo Trekker collection falls within the overarching Promaster Air collection – an assortment of “modern, pilot-inspired” watches designed for “discover[ing] the world from high above.” The Geo Trekker models are perhaps the most fanciful of the bunch, having received significantly more style-oriented components than many of their other Promaster Air counterparts.

The Geo Trekker collection consists of three new watches: one limited-edition (featured below!) piece and two toned-down models that lack some of the specialty elements that take the more exclusive piece to the next level – FUJIFILM Corp. structural ink chief amongst them.

The three carry different prices, ranging from $795 to $895, with the limited edition fetching the largest figure. Functionally, all three new Geo Trekkers offer Radio Control timekeeping technology to ensure accuracy and a 46mm stainless steel case that resists water up to 200 meters.

Both collections are great additions to the Citizen lineup, and any one of the watches in them would make for a valuable statement piece in any collection. The question then becomes: which one would you choose?

Shop The 🔥 From Citizen

Price: $495

Overview: The Forza Three-Hand combines classic elegance with modern construction, delivering a durable, yet sleek timepiece. A day-date window adds flair and functionality without detracting from the minimalist cues, and silver-tone accents stand out perfectly against a white dial. Fashioned from Super Titanium™ – Citizen’s proprietary Duratect-hardened case material – this piece is extremely resistant to scratches and rust.

For those interested in bolder dial colors, the Forza Three-Hand is also available with a textured blue dial or a stunning turquoise dial at the same price.

Price: $625

Overview: Also crafted from Super Titanium™, the Forza Chronograph is a slightly larger and more functional piece than the above Three-Hand. According to Citizen, features include running time, a split-second chronograph, 12/24 hour time, and date, giving the wearer a host of additional features over a minimal piece. The black sub-dials contrast perfectly against a textured teal dial, making this watch a bold statement piece that will stand out sharply against neutral colors.

Alternatively, the Forza Chronograph is offered with an equally attention-grabbing textured salmon dial or a silver-toned dial that more closely parallels the color of the bracelet and case.

Price: $895

Overview: The limited-edition Geo Trekker seamlessly infuses natural design elements into rugged materials, implying Earth’s geological features in the fascinatingly complex dial without compromising its utility. The 46mm case is crafted out of stainless steel and encapsulates a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a counterclockwise-rotating disc featuring the Northern Hemisphere, and a “data-driven, terra-inspired dial display” comprised of recycled materials and structural color ink that FUJIFILM Corp. engineered to deliver “a spectrum of hues and tones with a sense of depth through light reflection.”

Despite ranking as the priciest of the three watches in this week’s list, the Promaster Geo Trekker over-delivers in functional features, stylistic elements, design creativity, and practical utility. As a limited-edition piece in the 100th Anniversary Layers of Time collection, this watch will likely always make a statement whenever you wear it.
